Natural Dye

GEM Eco Studio is an artisan,
experimental natural dye studio.

We cover small to large-scale dye projects.

Dying any 100% natural, regenerative, upcycled or vintage fabrics such as wool, silk, hemp, linen, cotton etc. Embracing sustainable innovation, we also work with organic vegan fabrics derived from bamboo, rose, orange, aloe, and lotus fibres.

GEM is vegan friendly and there are no synthetically produced chemicals used in our dye process, it is circular, re-localised and embraces a soil-to-soil system.

The intention is to infuse our cloth with rich emotion, history and story. Working with plant symbolism and their inherent virtues to create meaningful fabrics.

Dye Materials

We use plants found locally, grown on allotments or pruned from our clients gardens. We work seasonally, responsibly sourcing dye plants from carefully chosen locations, ensuring minimal environmental impact.

All materials are harvested and processed by hand by traditional methods.

Fibres

For productions we normally use fabrics chosen and purchased by you, delivered to GEM Eco Studio for dyeing.

GEM can also order fabrics, choosing fibres that have been grown, processed and manufactured without the use of any harmful synthetic chemicals from ethical suppliers.

Experimental Materials

As well as fabrics, GEM naturally dyes rope, cord, yarn, raw fibres, wood, paper, found objects and haberdashery items such as wooden toggles, beads or buttons.

Through a love of experimenting we
have also dyed crystal, fungi and shell.

To begin a bespoke dye project for you, we would love to receive any ideas, mood boards, or project colour palettes.
